Probably the best free image editing program around. Has a lot of the same features as Photoshop.
Gimp functionality is increased greatly by plug-ins. This has simalarities to Artrage (see below)
Allows you to batch process photos. Makes uploading a lot easier.
Free Private Exchange. Non-indexed webpages for sharing almost any media. Safe, private, password protectable.

An excellent vector graphics package. No corner cutting when using this package in comparison to Serif, allows the user to get a thorough knowledge/experience of how vectors are created and manipulated. Excellent tutorials and on-line support community
Network Notepad
Network Notepad is a Freeware program for creating interactive network diagrams - good for use with A Level students

Allows you to take videos of what's happening on screen - great for staff to create tutorial videos and there are also lots of ways for the kids to use this
Any but mainly secondary
Powerful open source web-based survey tool, used in East Lothian for council-wide surveys of entire year cohorts to monitor and evaluate student experience of learning at P6 and S2. PHP/MySQL based. Can do automatic simple stats/charts reporting as pdf.
